Missed Birthdays

For one day in a year, I become selfish. I want to have everyone call me, think of me, send me the warmest of wishes and love. I want my friends and family to make effort when choosing their words (and gifts) around me, and I want to be the happiest person in the world. Yes, it’s my birthday and I want to be the center of attention!

Every year I say that I will not make a big deal out of it. I’m not that young anymore, I don’t have that extra money to spend on one party, I just don’t feel like making a big fuss. But than the day comes and my best friends are the first to call and ask “So where is the party?”…and I have to have an answer. This year, it was so impromptu, that I just bought couple of bottles of gin and fresh mint and made the best mojito party there is!

Yet, the next day you start thinking who did not came/call/wished(singed) “Happy Birthday”. Did they forgot? Have I forgot to call them? Should I have had invited them anyway? Should I call them now? Eventually, time goes by and you forget about these questions.

However, the time comes when they have their own special day. These days, with the notifications, Facebook or Skype is hard to forget or ignore someone’s birthday, but when you are doing a huge project, thoroughly immersed in the work,  or are out of the country, or life(and it counter part) just halts you in your every-day tasks,  these things happen!

I wished so many belated birthdays to friends and family members in the past few months, people start to wonder if I’ve become forgetful or ignorant! And the birthdays I miss the most are the ones of the great people of the history of the world, when I read a book by a famous writer (Victor Hugo, 26th of Feb Les Misérables or Charles Dickens, 7th of FebOliver Twist) or listen to great music (Mozart-27th January, Bob Marley-6th Feb, Norah Jones- 30th March, Marvin Gaye- 2nd April) or watched a great movie or documentary for an artist, scientists, sportist etc.

I’ve missed so many events, birthdays, celebrations and moments of leisure and fun. Just now , looking back, I can see the sacrifice I have made. Sometimes you have to ask yourself if it is worth it. But for this…for now…I think it is.

Belief lifts your talent

This morning I started reading John C. Maxwell’s Beyond Talent and instantly I felt the urge to share an idea from the first chapter. Here it is:

Image

“The first and greatest obstacle to success for most people is their belief in themselves…It’s lack of trust in themselves, which is self-imposed limitation. However, when people believe in themselves, they unleash power in themselves and resources around them that almost immediately take them to higher level. Your potential is a picture of what you can become. “

It’s amazing what people can do when they believe in themselves and their abilities. So today, I urge you: Believe in what you can do: because you can do amazing things!

Inspirational movie: The Botany of Desire (documentary, 2013)

Last night, I craved a documentary. I know it’s funny, people crave food or something else that comes to mind at night, but I very often crave for a good movie! I know that I won’t be disappointed with a documentary about plants, so I choose to watch this one. And was I right, or was I right?!

The movie has four parts, or four stories, based on four plants that had huge impact in human life over the years :APPLES, TULIPS, MARIJUANA AND POTATOES. It is also based on the homonymous book by Michael Pollan. The twist: How these plants “thoughtfully” influenced humans to gain their popularity!

Let me explain. The apples originated from Kazakhstan, county in central Asia. From there, they were first scattered around by the bears who loved the sweetness of the fruit, but later, from the humans who also enjoyed the sweet fruit with lovely color! Not all apples were sweet, but the ones who were, the juiciest, biggest, most desired ones were, and these are the ones who got picked and carried in the bags of humans to be planted in other countries!

The movie goes on to explain how the same things happens with tulips (the tulip madness in Holland) and now with Marijuana.

The wisdom you get from this movie is unique, in a sense of understanding the power of silently improving yourself so much so that you become the most desired “fruit”, everyone gets “hungry” for! Plants have much more wisdom than people give them credit for. They have been on this Earth long before we came here, outlived so many animals and will be here long after we’re gone. They adapt to the conditions and desires of their surrounding so that the surrounding can work for them! So clever!

I think this was sufficient to say for now. What you should, or better yet, MUST do is watch the entire thing:

Enjoy!

One of my favorite real-life stories

This is a real life, that seems so surreal, unusual, almost like fantasy movie, or rather yet, an animated children movie. Absolutely love this story. I know it is old, many of you maybe have already read about it, nonetheless, I had to share it:

– for those who haven’t read it—>to be amazed and inspired

– for those who know it—> to reread it and re-experience the magnificent life

Enjoy!

Born in Namibia, to French wildlife photographer parents, growing up in Africa, this lovely child, now 23 years old, had elephant, cheetah and bullfrog as friends.

You can enjoy more pictures and the entire story in the book:

Like the Flowing River by Paulo Coelho

This is the ONLY book he has the English rights. An incredible compilation of inspiration, motivation and pure wisdom! When reading Coelho, you always get excited and calmed at the same time. You get filled with love and understanding.

Don’t stop at the Alchemist. Read more, and read now! It’s the best food for thought that you can “eat” over and over again!

Get it now!

Thanks to ROBIN SHARMA

I don’t know if I have told you yet, but I loooove reading books. It’s my way of relaxing and enjoying and shutting myself from the world, even when I read in a room full of people.

Now, in the spirit of Thanksgiving and giving thanks to everything that matters in our lives, I wanted to give thanks to the man who have saved me from depression and hurting myself, over and over again, ROBIN SHARMA!

Every single book he had written had left me better than it found me! I started from the Megaliving! Change your life in 30 days, and I really changed my life. His step-by-step process of telling you what to do, showing you the right path and not making you feel overwhelmed by the exercises and the tasks you need to do, are perfect for anyone who wants to be better. It can be applied to any area of your life: health, wealth, education, relationships, business, family, love, exercises, anything! I started with health myself, and it did wonders! I have never thought I could change in just 30 days! It was after the first week when I realized I CAN DO THIS! And after the first 30 days, I have realized that not only I can do this, I WANT TO DO THIS FOREVER!

Start off with this book and develop the last month of this year into the beginning of the best life you can have!

Happy Birthday Jack Welch!

Today is his 77 birthday! This man has so much knowledge and experience in the field of leadership and management, that every word he sends out to the world is golden! I have been fascinated with the way he blends passion and simplicity, while always focusing on people. His books are bestsellers, he always smiles and he never shuts down or refuse to give an advice. He is one of those idols I have who shows me to be altruistic, by giving what I have studied and know.

With that being said, I give you few options on how you can study his work and let him teach you to be a better leader, and a better human being.

First, his books. You can find his books selling on Amazon.com http://amzn.to/1bA9HI0 . There are few *free* options for some of the books. Although, I do recommend having at least “Winning” or “Straight from the Gut” in a paperback copy in your house, so you can add your bookmarks to the important pages and things that can help you. Re-read them over and over!

Here are some links for reading some of his books for free, I’ve found online:

Another option for truly diving in, in his teachings is—to let him personally teach you! Yup! Jack Welch has launched courses on Udemy! There are three courses, and each of them cost 500$, however, you can wait for some coupons and codes for discounts to lower the price.

Here is the link to his courses on Udemy.

Whatever you choose, choose something. His words will stay with you forever.

Happy Birthday Jack! And have many more to come!

It’s Dostoyevsky Birthday!

For my favorite authors of all time, I share few quotes of my favorite book of all time Crime and Punishment (as if I didn’t scared you enough with my favorite author being Dostoyevsky, I’m telling you my favorite, read-once-a-year book being Crime and Punishment…well…it’s true!) After reading these few quotes I hope you’ll grab a copy of the book and read it through all of it yourself. Don’t let the number of pages scare you!

I will even give you a link from where you can download the book for free! Just read it!!!  http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/2554

Few lines of the book:

“It takes something more than intelligence to act intelligently.”

“Don’t be overwise; fling yourself straight into life, without deliberation; don’t be afraid – the flood will bear you to the bank and set you safe on your feet again.”

“I Love it when people lie! Lying is only mans privilege over all other organisms. Lying is what makes me a man”

“What do you think?” shouted Razumikhin, louder than ever, “you think I am attacking them for talking nonsense? Not a bit! I like them to talk nonsense. That’s man’s one privilege over all creation. Through error you come to the truth! I am a man because I err! You never reach any truth without making fourteen mistakes and very likely a hundred and fourteen. And a fine thing, too, in its way; but we can’t even make mistakes on our own account! Talk nonsense, but talk your own nonsense, and I’ll kiss you for it. To go wrong in one’s own way is better than to go right in someone else’s. In the first case you are a man, in the second you’re no better than a bird. Truth won’t escape you, but life can be cramped.”

Seven years, only seven years! At the beginning of their happiness at some moments they were both ready to look on those seven years as though they were seven days. He did not know that the new life would not be given him for nothing, that he would have to pay dearly for it, that it would cost him great striving, great suffering. But that is the beginning of a new story – the story of the gradual renewal of a man, the story of his gradual regeneration, of his passing from one world into another, of his initiation into a new unknown life. That might be the subject of a new story, but our present story is ended.

“Only to live, to live and live! Life, whatever it may be!”

Read it and think about it…than read it again 🙂 Happy Birthday Fyodor!
