Naomi Campbell’s advice from Shape Magazine

Image

I was just reading SHAPE magazine and I love the advice Naomi is sharing in it. She gives her “best beauty secrets” which really are great advice for everyone! There are some that are not so secret to the world like “find your passion” or “eat clean”, but the second one : BREAK DOWN BARRIERS really intrigued me.

She talks about the starting off in the fashion world as one of the first few black models. Of course it was a world she had to break into, in order to be successful. So her lesson learned from that time:

“I learned if you don’t accept no for an answer, you often get a yes…. Every cover I got, I fought for. No’s don’t deter me- they make me more determined”

is what every person should understand and do, every day! Fight for what you know you should have: the freedom for everyone, the promotion or the job you want, the human and animal rights, the vacation days you need to spend with your family, the perfect health you know you deserve!

I would definitely listen to this girl- hard to believe almost 44-year old woman with that face and body- as she clearly has succeeded in her professional life and from what I’ve read from her interview in the magazine, her inner, personal life as well.

Satisfying instant cravings

I was looking for some quick and easy recipe to satisfy my appetite for sweet and junk food, but to make sure it’s not junk! Browsing through the internet is actually daunting sometimes, because there are just so many recipes! During the time I was searching I could have baked an entire cake and eat it! Luckily I didn’t 🙂 After all, I’m sure I would have overload it with sugar. And that was not the point in the first place.

5 Minute espresso walnut brownies | via minimalistbaker

So, after a while, I stumbled upon this awesome website : http://minimalistbaker.com/ where I found lots of “express” recipes, that are clean and healthy!

I loved (and made) the 5-minute-espresso-walnut-brownies, only substitute the walnuts with hazelnuts (as that was what I had at home). They are going to be made over and over in the next few weeks and months.

1. I loved that there is no need for baking!

2. I love that it takes only 5 min to make them

3. Even though it says to put them in the freezer, I LOVE  that you can EAT THEM AT ONCE!

Let me know if you love them too!

Here is the recipe:

A no bake, fudgy brownie that’s refined sugar-, gluten-, and dairy-free. Rich, moist, dense and full of chocolate espresso flavor.
Author: Minimalist Baker
Recipe type: Dessert
Cuisine: Vegan
Serves: ~ 20
INGREDIENTS
  • 1.5 cups raw walnuts, divided
  • 1 cup raw unsalted almonds, roughly chopped
  •
2 – 2 1/2 cups Medjool or Deglet Nour dates, pitted
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder OR raw cacao if you have it
  • 1-2 tsp espresso powder or finely ground coffee (depending on preference)
  • pinch sea salt

INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Place 1 cup walnuts and 1 cup almonds in food processor and process until finely ground.
  2. Add the cocoa powder or cacao, espresso powder and sea salt. Pulse to combine and then transfer to bowl and set aside.
  3. Add the dates to the food processor and process until small bits remain. Remove from bowl and set aside.
  4. Add nut and cocoa mixture back into food processor and while processing, drop small handfuls of the date pieces down into the food processor spout. Process until a dough consistency is achieved, adding more dates if the mixture does not hold together when squeezed in your hand.
  5. Add the brownie mixture to a small parchment lined cake pan or loaf pan and add remaining 1/2 cup roughly roughly chopped walnuts. Toss to combine and evenly distribute, and then press down with you hands until it is flat and firm.
  6. Place in freezer or fridge to chill before cutting. Store in an airtight container to keep fresh. Will keep in the fridge for at least 2 weeks and in the freezer for at least 2 months.

Have a great day and KEEP SHINING!

It’s Dostoyevsky Birthday!

For my favorite authors of all time, I share few quotes of my favorite book of all time Crime and Punishment (as if I didn’t scared you enough with my favorite author being Dostoyevsky, I’m telling you my favorite, read-once-a-year book being Crime and Punishment…well…it’s true!) After reading these few quotes I hope you’ll grab a copy of the book and read it through all of it yourself. Don’t let the number of pages scare you!

I will even give you a link from where you can download the book for free! Just read it!!!  http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/2554

Few lines of the book:

“It takes something more than intelligence to act intelligently.”

“Don’t be overwise; fling yourself straight into life, without deliberation; don’t be afraid – the flood will bear you to the bank and set you safe on your feet again.”

“I Love it when people lie! Lying is only mans privilege over all other organisms. Lying is what makes me a man”

“What do you think?” shouted Razumikhin, louder than ever, “you think I am attacking them for talking nonsense? Not a bit! I like them to talk nonsense. That’s man’s one privilege over all creation. Through error you come to the truth! I am a man because I err! You never reach any truth without making fourteen mistakes and very likely a hundred and fourteen. And a fine thing, too, in its way; but we can’t even make mistakes on our own account! Talk nonsense, but talk your own nonsense, and I’ll kiss you for it. To go wrong in one’s own way is better than to go right in someone else’s. In the first case you are a man, in the second you’re no better than a bird. Truth won’t escape you, but life can be cramped.”

Seven years, only seven years! At the beginning of their happiness at some moments they were both ready to look on those seven years as though they were seven days. He did not know that the new life would not be given him for nothing, that he would have to pay dearly for it, that it would cost him great striving, great suffering. But that is the beginning of a new story – the story of the gradual renewal of a man, the story of his gradual regeneration, of his passing from one world into another, of his initiation into a new unknown life. That might be the subject of a new story, but our present story is ended.

“Only to live, to live and live! Life, whatever it may be!”

Read it and think about it…than read it again 🙂 Happy Birthday Fyodor!
